R3: Behavioral Science and Practice Management Seminars

(1 Rotation)

This R3 rotation is split into two, 2 week portions.  Behavioral Science hones many of the patient centered communication and counseling skills presented earlier in residency in order to better prepare graduates for practice.  In addition we cover self-care and mind-body skills.

The Practice Management portion is new for 2017 and focuses on how to be a competent and informed physician in an FQHC.  We cover financing and management issues in clinics as well as staff management.  We explore alternative strategies for financing health care nationally such as single payer.  We review coding and billing and share results of a coding audit done for every resident.  We also review employment contracts, liability insurance issues, CV development and interviewing skills.  Finally, we discuss personal finance, managing debt and ethical investing.
