Community Engagement

Much of what physicians learn as community-engaged activists takes place outside of the hospital and clinic environment. As such, we encourage our residents to collaborate with local partnerships and use their training to support policy changes which benefit the communities they serve.

Below are just a few examples of our residents out in the community. Outside of direct patient care, we perhaps make the most impact with our longitudinal community medicine work.

Carolyn Downs Youth Mentorship Program

Founded and still led by our residents, this pipeline program at Carolyn Downs trains local high school students interested in healthcare careers.


Indigenous-led land rehabilitation!

Duwamish Alive Coalition is a habitat restoration and outreach group focused on conservation around the Duwamish River watershed in the Seattle and Tacoma area. You can learn more about their work by visiting their website here.
